The story of how Finca La Vida became home

HELLO,

WE ARE

SAMANTHA

& CLIFFORD

Finca La Vida is our home, our work, our 12-acre farm and a way of life that feels much more like us.

We share it with four dogs, four cats and our rescue donkeys, Sedna and Freya. Neither of us came here knowing much about farming in Andalucía, so we’re learning together — tending our many trees, caring for the land and animals, and getting our hands dirty with whatever needs doing next.

Clifford is happiest building, fixing or creating something. Together we built the donkeys’ stables, and he has since discovered a real love and talent for dry-stone walling. After more than 30 years immersed in art and antiques, he has an instinctive eye for craftsmanship, character and provenance. That passion continues through Barchal, our art and antiques business, which we now run alongside life at the finca.

Samantha is studying herbal medicine and has a love of Ayurveda, yoga, meditation and spirituality. She’s endlessly curious about the herbs and plants growing around us, loves cooking with fresh ingredients and there’s usually a loaf of sourdough fermenting somewhere in the kitchen.

Living here has made us both notice things differently — the seasons, the preciousness of water, the changing light, the phases of the moon and those vast Andalusian skies. We still wander outside at night simply to look at the stars.

Between Finca La Vida and Barchal, we live and work together pretty much 24/7, so we’ve learnt that making time for us matters too. We love an evening in Nerja, escaping to the beaches of the natural park, or heading into Málaga for fresh produce from the market — followed by lunch, naturally.

Then it’s back up the mountain to the animals, the trees, the silence and the stars.

This life certainly isn’t without its challenges, but somewhere amongst the hard work, chaos and magic, we’ve found a way of living that feels right for us.

Wild, natural, soulful. Our Sanctuary for the Soul — and a place we love sharing with you.
