Walking &
The National Park
The mountains begin almost on our doorstep. Finca La Vida sits beside the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park, a beautiful landscape of mountain paths, pine forests, deep valleys and wide-open views.
Around Cómpeta, routes range from gentle morning walks to full days in the hills. Old tracks wind through the countryside, connecting villages and climbing higher into a landscape that can feel wonderfully remote.
You don’t need to arrive with an itinerary. Choose a route to suit the day, take plenty of water and enjoy the surroundings at your own pace. We’re always happy to share some of our favourite walks and places to explore.
WHITE VILLAGES
& LOCAL LIFE
Cómpeta is our local pueblo and the perfect starting point for discovering the white villages of the Axarquía. Its narrow streets lead between traditional houses, little squares, independent shops, galleries, bars and restaurants.
Nearby Canillas de Albaida, Árchez, Sayalonga and Frigiliana each have their own character. Market days, local fiestas and long lunches provide an easy way to experience a little more of everyday life here.
There’s no particular need for a plan. Wander, stop for coffee in a sunny plaza, find somewhere for lunch and see where the day takes you. These villages are often at their best when explored slowly.
FOOD, WINE
& MARKETS
Food is one of the best ways to get to know this corner of Andalucía. The Axarquía is known for its wonderful local produce, from almonds, avocados and mangos to olive oil and the region’s distinctive Moscatel wines.
Local markets are worth exploring for seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheeses, bread, olives and other produce. Pick up a few things for lunch back at the finca or simply enjoy the colours, flavours and everyday bustle.
There are plenty of reasons to linger over a meal too. Enjoy tapas in Cómpeta, find a traditional venta in the hills or head towards the coast for freshly grilled fish and a long lunch beside the Mediterranean.
Yoga
& Pilates
The peaceful surroundings of Finca La Vida make it a natural place to slow down, stretch and create a little space for yourself. Here, there’s no need to rush from one thing to the next.
Yoga and Pilates classes are available nearby for different levels, with options for both group and private sessions. It’s an easy way to add something restorative to your stay without having to plan your holiday around it.
Or keep things even simpler. Find a quiet corner, roll out a mat and practise in your own time, with fresh mountain air, birdsong and the sounds of the countryside around you.
BEACHES & THE
MEDITERRANEAN
From the mountains, it’s a pleasant journey down towards the Mediterranean. Nerja and Torrox offer long stretches of beach, waterfront restaurants and chiringuitos, making the coast an effortless option for a change of scenery.
Around Maro, the landscape becomes more rugged, with cliffs, smaller coves and clear water. Swim, snorkel, explore the coastline or simply find your spot and spend a few hours in the sunshine.
And when you’ve had enough of the beach, you can leave the bustle of the coast behind. Head back into the hills, where a quieter pace and the peaceful surroundings of Finca La Vida await.
OR SIMPLY
STAY
Of course, you don’t have to go anywhere. Some days are better without plans, particularly when you’ve found somewhere that makes it easy to slow down.
Swim. Read. Cook. Find a shady spot. Take an afternoon nap or watch the light change across the mountains. Open a bottle of wine as the sun goes down and stay outside for the stars.
Exploring Andalucía can be wonderful. But sometimes the best way to experience Finca La Vida is to stay exactly where you are and do very little at all.
